Week 4

Week4: We continued digging through all the library resources the Smithsonian had to offer. We went to the National Anthropological Archives reading room to look at the files to further our research, picture below. While we were there, we looked at the original document by Frank Cushing from his time excavating the faunal remains. While we were there we also looked at the original newspaper articles Cushing published about his findings at the location. We also pulled the accession numbers for the archaeofauna we have found at MSC. To get the accession files we had to use a microfilm scanner, which was a first for both of us. From the accession files, we learned that some of the archaeofauna we are interested in was transferred to different divisions within the museum. On Friday we went to a poster presentation where our friends and fellow interns Ashley and Muna were presented their summer research. As we are going into our final week here at Natural History we are summarizing our research and creating our presentation for the Furbearer workshop we will be attending.
