Week 1: We have begun our research by condensing Maine Archeology Collections to narrow the scope of our faunal data. This way we will know what archival collections we want to access when we get to MSC (Museum Support Center). We have also begun library research into Maine’s history, past and current relationship to indigenous peoples, and the fur trade. This will help contextualize our work and help contribute to the larger Furbearer Trade research project. At MSC we have started combing through archaeofauna specimens of interest (mink, muskrat, and beaver) and collecting data on them. We've had some great finds so far, including a whole muskrat lower jaw hidden in a box of beaver teeth, and possible Sea Mink faunal remains. See image gallery below!
